What do Codes, Windmills, Ancient Egypt have in common?
These are the topics of study for our START students this month.
Our first graders created their own code systems and created messages for each other to solve. They were so excited about their original codes they brought them home with them this week!
Our second graders are ready to use the Engineering Design Process to create blades to power a windmill. They will be working in small groups to ask, imagine, and plan their windmill blades this coming week and the following week they will be building their windmill blades and improving their designs and creations.
Our third graders have been learning about the culture, language and history of Ancient Egypt. They will be learning about bartering and trade in the coming weeks.
Our SIGNET studies: Hands on Equations, Independent Centers, and Groovy Greeks
Ask your child about their current center including what are they studying and what activities they are doing to learn about their center topic.
Our 4th graders have progressed through lesson 10 in Hands on Equations and our 5th graders are at lesson 20 and beyond. They are solving increasingly complex equations with positive and negative numbers.
Our 4th and 5th graders are well on their way to becoming playwrights. They are working in small groups based on a common interest and are researching and writing scripts about a famous Groovy Greek or a Greek myth. Ask your child what their topic is. Students will be performing their plays for their class later in April.
